What should I do after completing the course? Do you offer higher-level courses?

Introducing British Sign Language is designed to give you a solid introduction to BSL. By the end of the course, you should be able to understand and use a range of everyday signs, hold simple conversations and develop an understanding of how BSL works as a visual language.

Do you offer Level 1 or advanced courses?

No. We currently offer one online course: Introducing British Sign Language.

It is intended as a foundation for anyone who is new to BSL.

What should I do next?

If you would like to continue learning, we recommend joining a face-to-face BSL course. Learning alongside other students and fluent signers is one of the best ways to build confidence, improve your receptive skills and develop natural conversations.

Many learners choose to continue with a Signature Level 1 course, although there are other recognised providers offering BSL qualifications and classes throughout the UK.

If there are no classes near you, try searching online for “BSL Level 1” together with the name of your town or county. Many colleges, adult education centres and Deaf organisations also run regular BSL classes.

Keep practising

Whichever route you choose, the most important thing is to keep using BSL.

Regular practice, meeting Deaf people and using BSL in real conversations will help you develop far more quickly than studying on your own.
